Apart from updating the hypervisors, one of the best things developed was the optimization pack for such software. The optimization packs for Microsoft Teams and Zoom were made available and can be installed on the workstations to improve the user experience.
The below figure illustrates the working of the Microsoft Teams optimization pack in VMware. These work on a similar principle in Citrix as well. The product installed via these has the capability of working with the plugin on the endpoint device. For Zoom, details about compatibility with various VDI providers is available here.
Similar information for Microsoft Teams can be found here. To take complete advantage of the optimization packs, it is imperative to configure a few things on the server and client-side. Citrix has outlined a detailed explanation on how to configure the VDA in the data centre, Citrix Workspace App on the endpoint, along with how to set up the network. The most crucial step in these setups is correctly configuring the network. But what is the best endpoint option for this? We are glad to mention that our endpoint operating system — ZeeOS comes with these optimization packs provided by Citrix and VMware, already pre-installed.
So, whether you are using our hardware device, ZeeTerm , or are repurposing an existing device using ZeeTransformer , you will be able to take benefit of these packs and provide a better experience to the end-users. Microsoft Teams on Azure Virtual Desktop supports chat and collaboration. With media optimizations, it also supports calling and meeting functionality.
With media optimization for Microsoft Teams, the Remote Desktop client handles audio and video locally for Teams calls and meetings. You can still use Microsoft Teams on Azure Virtual Desktop with other clients without optimized calling and meetings. Teams chat and collaboration features are supported on all platforms. To redirect local devices in your remote session, check out Customize Remote Desktop Protocol properties for a host pool.
This section will show you how to install the Teams desktop app on your Windows 10 or 11 Multi-session or Windows 10 or 11 Enterprise VM image. From the start menu, run RegEdit as an administrator. Create the Teams key if it doesn't already exist. You can deploy the Teams desktop app using a per-machine or per-user installation. Download the Teams MSI package that matches your environment.
We recommend using the bit installer on a bit operating system. Teams won't work properly with per-user installation on a non-persistent setup. At this point, the golden image setup is complete. Installing Teams per-machine is required for non-persistent setups.
It's important to understand the difference between these parameters. All users with admin credentials on the machine can uninstall Teams. This uninstalls Teams from the Program Files x86 folder or Program Files folder, depending on the operating system environment.
We recommend you make sure to update Teams at least once a month. To learn more about deploying the Teams desktop app, check out Deploy the Teams desktop app to the VM. If you're using a version of the Remote Desktop client for macOS that's earlier than If you're using the client for the first time and already have version After installing the WebSocket Service and the Teams desktop app, follow these steps to verify that Teams media optimizations loaded:.
If media optimizations loaded, the banner will show you Azure Virtual Desktop Media optimized.
